Individual Psychotherapy for Depression, Anxiety or other Issues

Maybe you are seeking to resolve feelings of sadness, anxiety, self-blame, disconnected from others, or simply “stuck”.   I will work with you to help develop insight into the processes underlying those feelings and to make meaning from your life experiences.  Together we will identify and uncover your - even previously unrecognized - strengths and resources. Using practical and concrete tools, and through multiple avenues of change, you will address problematic thoughts and feelings, including inner conflicts manifesting in shame and guilt, intense or “prickly” reactions to others, and challenging relationship dynamics.

I provide specialized support for all stages of family life for women and men experiencing challenges including infertility, post-partum depression, difficulties adjusting to motherhood or fatherhood, empty-nesting, retirement, and other roles and changes across the lifespan.

Parenting Guidance & Support

If only parenting came with a reliable “How-To Guide”!  Parenting is the ultimate challenge, and I provide parents with the support they deserve navigating the innumerable demands of raising young people.  Sometimes parents come for help making sense of their child’s changing needs in an unfamiliar cultural landscape. Sometimes parents come for guidance to stop placing their anxiety and fears onto their children. If you are a parent, you may benefit from the opportunity to explore your own relationship patterns from childhood, yielding a deeper awareness of how those patterns impact and inform your parenting style, emotions and expectations. This insight can empower you to navigate your parenting with a sense of calm and confidence.

Couples Counseling

I have tremendous respect for and enjoy working with couples in all stages of relationship - dating, pre-marital, marital, non-marital, cohabitating - and those simply seeking healthier communication and deeper connection.  I draw from training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and other modalities to provide a safe space for each partner to be heard, understood, and to feel truly cared for and appreciated.  My goal is to enhance your skills and ability as a couple to work towards regaining trust, reestablishing intimacy and connection, and resolving conflict.

Navigating Separation and Divorce

With sensitivity, caring, and compassion I help individuals and couples struggling with the difficult decision of separation or divorce.  I will provide you an opportunity to be heard and understood, and to consider and practice the skills you will need for more effective communication and co-parenting with your former partner.   Additionally, I provide feedback to help you avoid replicating problematic relationship patterns from the past. Addressing the negative self-talk, blame, and guilty feelings that tend to accompany these decisions will better enable you to shift perspective and walk towards the future with a sense of relief and optimism, and a focus on what you value most.

Life Transitions

Life changes, either major or minor ones, can make us feel as if someone “pulled out the rug from under us”. Ending a long-term relationship, job or career, transitioning to or from college and the “real world”, becoming a parent or an “empty nester”, retiring, becoming a caregiver, and other life changes can be met with excitement, but also with anxiety, confusion and a sense of loss of previous roles. Therapy can provide an opportunity to explore your concerns, develop insight and awareness of the resources and skills you already have, as well as others you may need, to move into the next phase with positive energy, hope and clarity.

Career Balancing in the Corporate World: Managing Work and Finding Meaning

I help guide people navigating career transitions, seeking greater work/life balance within the limitations of the corporate world, or finding their way to a different type of work that connects them to what they love most. Therapy can offer you the insight to understand that it is in your power to make choices that will lead to a more satisfying, balanced and fulfilled life.

Emerging Adulthood

Young adults face unique challenges presented by a rapidly shifting cultural landscape, especially due to the rise of social media and other societal forces.  Your expectations about your career, money, and relationships significantly affect your well-being.  By identifying your own values and priorities, as well as your strengths and resources, you can find your way to being your own best guide, and feel less pressured by the expectations of others.  By gaining a broader perspective, along with practical emotional regulation tools, you can reduce your tendency towards self - criticism AND feel less overwhelmed with what you see on social media. Learn how creating new opportunities for “real-life socializing” can help you further hone important social skills that will serve you for life.
